The personal Art Blog is Leo Hayden Artwork.
My name is Leo Hayden and I am a local artist currently residing in Lawrence, KS. I have been showing with the Fresh Produce Art Collective for a little over a year now. I was invited by Jouvelt to bring some work last year to the Black Monday show in December of 2008, and have been contributing to the Tellers shows fairly steadily since then.
Recently I have become fully involved with the collective and I am now a full fledged member of both F.P.A.C. and Dot Dot Dot Artspace.
I was raised in the suburbs of Denver, Colorado. I graduated from Wheat Ridge Sr. High in the mile high state, and studied Psychology at Metro St in Denver, as well as Kearney St, and the Univ. of Nebraska at Omaha, both in Nebraska.
My art career started out by simply doing murals, and acquiring commissions based on the previous works. Eventually I came to the notion that I should give art a serious go, and have been working toward fiscal viability for a couple years now. I owe Elizabeth ( the sole reason I moved to wonderful Lawrence in the first place) a huge debt of gratitude for putting up with this notion.
My work history was heavily influenced by music, movies and computers (and lots of bar tending ) and my artwork often reflects this. I love the idea of doing a painting based on a song, movie or event and then creating time progression video’s of the work as it is being completed. Then I incorporate the web to give it a world audience. I really love the idea that someone in Europe came across one of my works purely based on a random google search. It really intrigues me.
I see my role in Fresh Produce as more than just a means to sell some art. I am excited that both the Collective and Dot Dot Dot have encouraged me to get more and more involved in all aspects of the planning and promotion of shows, as well as the execution of day to day operations of the artspace.
My notion is to have operations running in such a way that the focus truly is on producing quality art and promoting new talent, and not be worrying in the back of your mind about whether or not you will find some time a few days before the show to put up some flyers. In short, get to the point where we manage our time effectively, instead of time effectively running us.
In 3 short weeks I think we have made great strides and things will just continue to get better.
